Educational Tour Helsinki -Gardenia puutarha

There is no better way to spend a day with your classmates on an educational tour. We had an educational tour to Helsinki, the capital city of Finland on 10.4.2014. They were very kind enough to pick me up from Hyvinkää ABC petrol station.

We were behind our schedule for Gardenia because we had to drop off some of the students on the way. Finally we arrived at Gardenia and Sinikka was our Guide. We had also an assignment to Evaluate Sinikka based on her performance. It's kind of difficult because she had a limited time according to my observations. She was in hurry, there was no change for questions as well. Good part is that she knows what she was talking about. She is professional in her job. Her dressing code was appropriate. Her presentation was out of her head, she didnt use at note or book.

A unique tropical garden, Gardenia, was opened in April 2001. It is a limited joint stock company co-owned by the City of Helsinki and the University of Helsinki. The luxuriant garden, covered by glass, is a beautiful and refreshing place to visit all year  round. Sadly they might closed down the garden permanently in near future.

There are more than 300 species of plants in gardenia at current moment. They consists of exotic fruit like guava & mango, spices & herbs used as medicines, building material trees like bamboo. Most of them are from Asia but there are also others from Africa & Southern America. We started our guided tour lead by Sinikka in moonsuunipuutarha. Mango, Avocado, Cocoa and many other plants demanding warmer and more humid conditions.

Gardenia is closed on Fridays for watering & treatment of the plants. If you need any advice on how to take care of the plants at home you can get advice from Gardenia, also on tips for gardening. For easter they have a work corner in garnedia where the visitors can make handmade cards etc.

Gardenia offers following facilities
• Tropical garden
• Outdoor gardens
• Guided tours in the garden
• Guided tours in the surrounding nature
• Facilities for meetings and celebrations like weddings, birthday parties etc
• Environmental education for children

Gardenia has also two conference rooms namely kaneli & timali with the need conference facilities.
